Can I go to the restaurant without visiting the fortress?
No, during fortress opening hours access to the Festungswirtschaft is only possible when you have a valid entry ticket. No entry ticket is required for celebrations which are being held outside fortress opening hours.
How long should I factor in for a visit to the fortress?
For a visit to the fortress you should allow at least one hour.
Are dogs permitted in the fortress?
Yes, dogs are permitted in the fortress area when they are kept on a lead. The only place dogs are not permitted is the museum of local history.
Is taking photographs permitted?
Essentially yes, although no camera flashes etc. or commercial photography can be taken. Without exception, larger scale productions are to be cleared with the fortress administration and are only possible with specific approval.
Where is the best place to park?
The best place to park is in one of the many car parking areas in the town centre, where it is just a short walk to the entrance of the fortress.
Is there a bus parking area?
No, please use the public bus parking areas available in the town centre. There is also the option of letting visitors out at Oberer Stadtplatz outside the town hall. From there it is just a short walk to the main entrance of the fortress.
